Designed by Dave Hill, the TITAN combines a discrete Class A analogue signal path with a high-speed DSP sidechain, bringing together the sonic qualities of analogue compression and the flexibility of digital control. From clean, transparent dynamics processing to colourful vintage-style compression, the TITAN offers extensive control over both dynamics and harmonic character.
At the heart of the TITAN is its unique VCA Colour control, which allows continuous blending between a clean PWM gain control circuit and a vintage diode-based compression circuit. With 16 selectable steps, users can precisely adjust the character of the gain reduction, moving from transparent compression to a more coloured, vintage response.
The Dynamic Colour control introduces additional harmonic content, allowing the sound to become fuller and more pronounced without relying solely on gain reduction. A dedicated Fat/Air switch provides further tonal shaping, adding either low-frequency weight or high-frequency presence.
Conventional compressor parameters include Threshold, Attack, Release, Shape and Makeup Gain. The Shape control adjusts the compression knee, with its response curve displayed graphically on the colour LCD screen. This provides immediate visual feedback when adjusting the compressor’s behaviour.
A built-in Parallel Mix control allows the dry and compressed signals to be blended directly within the unit, making parallel compression possible without additional routing. All parameters are adjusted using stepped controls and encoders, with their values displayed on the LCD for accurate manual recall.
For stereo applications, two TITAN units can be linked, with one acting as the master controller for both channels.
Housed in a compact 1U rackmount chassis, the Dave Hill Designs TITAN is a versatile dynamics processor equally suited to recording, mixing and mastering applications where precise control over compression and tonal character is essential.
