Description
The SPL Phonos duo is a serious phono preamp for listeners who want flexibility without compromising on sound. Built around SPL’s 120V VOLTAiR technology and a Douglas Self-designed RIAA stage, it supports both MM and MC cartridges, offers up to 70 dB of gain, and gives you balanced XLR as well as unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs.
What makes it especially appealing is how much control it gives you over cartridge matching and system integration. MM capacitance can be set across six values from 12 pF to 330 pF, while MC impedance offers six settings from 20 ohms to 1 kohm. A switchable subsonic filter helps tame rumble, and front-panel mono, mute, and input selection make it far more practical than the average audiophile phono stage.
In use, the Phonos duo feels less like a fussy specialist box and more like a properly thought-out high-end tool. With balanced connectivity, flexible gain structure, and SPL’s high-voltage headroom, it is equally at home in a refined hi-fi setup or a more studio-minded listening chain.
